Motherwell FC revisit Scotkart for a Grand Prix - 06/03/09 |
Stephen Craigan the Motherwell captain took advantage of his team's free weekend and brought along a selection of first team players and promising youngsters for a morning's Grand Prix. Unfortunately for Stephen a clash with Christian Nade of Hearts put him out of the running to compete and put the youngsters in their place, so he was left spectating or in his case, shouting and hollering at his team mates from the balcony viewing area. Taking up the challenge of a Grand Prix 4 where defensive trio of Steven Hammell, Mark Reynolds and Brian McLean, lining up also on the grid was the midfield trio of Ross Forbes, Keith Lasley and Jim O'Brien, the striker partnership of Steven McGarry and Jamie Murphy and two youngsters to the Motherwell team of Darren Smith and Jeremy Martin. After the initial 15 lap practice qualifier, a brilliantly fought two 15 lap races (reverse grid on the second race to see how good they really are) and then on to the 15 lap Grand Final, after a spin out on the huge flyover at the beginning of the race, a re-start was ordered by the Race Director. As the race progressed it looked as if the trio who started on the grid, Mark Reynolds, Brian McLean and Jamie Murphy where going to block the oncoming traffic and claim the 1st 2nd and 3rd podium finish when in the last lap, Mark Reynolds let his guard down and in slipped his defensive partner Brian McLean to take the chequered flag, podium, winners trophy and the bragging rites. On a side note, its was good to see another SPL team at Scotkart, but this time not a goalkeeper in sight to steal all the glory, as they always do!
