Barnardo’s Scotland’s Fundraiser at Scotkart Cambuslang
The annual Barnardo’s Scotland team karting challenge was held at Scotkart, Cambuslang, on Thursday night (12th November). Companies from across South Lanarkshire and Scotland attended, raising around £1000 for Barnardo’s Scotland.
The winning team was J&HM Dickson Ltd of Rutherglen, William Johnston & Co Ltd and Biggart Baillie LLP, both from Glasgow, in second and third place respectively.
The money raised will go towards Barnardo’s Scotland’s projects across the country. Barnardo’s Scotland provides more than 60 community-based services throughout Scotland working with over 10,000 vulnerable children, young people and their families.
One service to benefit from this fundraising event is the South Lanarkshire Resettlement and Support Initiative. This service provides outreach, resettlement and support to people who are currently or at risk of homelessness. The service is provided in partnership with South Lanarkshire Council and YMCA Glasgow.
Other local community services include disability support, counselling, fostering placement and post-adoption services, vocational training and education initiatives and social inclusion projects. Barnardo’s Scotland needs to raise £4 million every year to support its work in Scotland. Fundraising information is available at www.barnardos.org.uk/scotland.
Stewart Matthews said, “Barnardo’s Scotland is doing fantastic work in South Lanarkshire and throughout Scotland and we are proud to be involved again this year. The race was enjoyed in the right competitive spirit and everyone had a great time.”
Margaret Morton, Barnardo's Scotland's Head of Fundraising, said, “A big thank you to Scotkart and all the drivers who took part. The Barnardo’s Scotland team karting challenge is always an excellent evening and a lot of fun for everyone involved. We are already looking forward to next year. The money raised will make a lasting difference to the lives of the children and young people we support across Scotland.”
